Haiku by the sea – January 1st 2015

In recent days I’ve spent a lot of time by the sea in different parts of Scotland. The following haiku are an attempt to record those memories. Here’s to a peaceful New Year.

Silver salmon sea,
Wave-scaled light scallops inland,
Scatters on the rocks.

***

Low tide seaweed mark
Runs the edges of torn crabs,
Jellyfish, driftwood.

***

Waves curl, roll and furl
Suck back through crowded pebbles
Nature’s rainmaker.

***

And finally…

Dusk. The pewits call.
Ghosts from past and other times
Cut through the still air.
